- Any topic at all. Volcanoes, nineties pop, the town you grew up in. Leave it blank and you get a general knowledge one.
- Pick how the clues talk. Standard, Funny, Simple — or full Cryptic, if that is the sort of evening you are having.
- Race it or pass it round. Everyone can hammer at the same grid at once, every answer scoring — or one of you holds it at a time and answers a single clue, over hours or days.
- A bad clue can be voted out. If one is nonsense and nobody can see it, the table votes and the grid moves on without it. It happens, and it is better than being stuck.
- A new grid every single time. There is no book of puzzles here to work through and run out of.
